The 15-kilometre route around Stari Grad leads runners through the very heart of Hvar’s heritage and one of the island’s most diverse landscapes. The start in Stari Grad opens the way toward the Stari Grad Plain, the oldest and best-preserved ancient agricultural landscape on the Adriatic. Running through its perfectly arranged plots bordered by dry-stone walls and along gently rolling dirt paths feels like moving through a living museum — but in the rhythm of a modern trail run.

From the plain, the route climbs toward the summit of Glavica — a short but intense ascent rewarded by sweeping views over the entire Stari Grad bay and the hills surrounding it. At the top, runners are met with one of the most striking panoramas of the course, a perfect transition into the faster, more runnable section that follows.

The descent from Glavica leads toward the sea and the coastal part of the trail, where the terrain softens into smooth, undulating paths tracing a line of crystal-clear coves. Particularly memorable is the passage by Paklina Cove — a blend of rock, pine trees, and deep blue sea that creates a postcard-worthy scene even at full speed. From here begins the final stage: the return along Stari Grad’s seaside promenade, an elegant shore path guiding runners back into the heart of the historic town.

The finish line in front of Tvrdalj, the monumental residence of Petar Hektorović, offers a powerful sense of completing a circular journey through history, nature, and sea. This 15-kilometre route perfectly combines runnability, variety, and visual appeal — an ideal middle-distance course for anyone looking to experience Stari Grad in the most dynamic way.

Aid stations

At the Tour de Hvar, we strive to minimize the festival’s negative impact on the environment, which is why single-use cups will not be available at the refreshment stations. We kindly ask runners to bring their own cup, bottle, or camel bag and use them at the refreshment stations.
